What does a piano tuning cost?
One of the most frequent questions – and a fair one. Here I explain honestly what a piano tuning costs, what makes up the price, and how to recognise fair billing.
What a piano tuning costs on average
In Germany, prices for a piano tuning generally range between €80 and €200. That wide span unsettles many people, but it has clear reasons: region, effort and above all the condition of the instrument.
Worth knowing: the cheapest tuning is not automatically the best one. A careful tuning by a trained professional lasts longer and treats your instrument gently – which saves money in the end.
What influences the price of your tuning
Condition: if your piano has gone years without tuning and sits well below pitch, a pitch raise is needed first – more work than a straightforward tuning.
The instrument: grands and uprights differ in effort. Travel: free within my core area. Extras: small repairs or action adjustments are only added if you want them – and always agreed beforehand.
Why I work with flat rates
Instead of opaque hourly billing I quote a fixed flat rate for the tuning. You know exactly where you stand – no surprises at the end.

How often should I have my piano tuned?
Once or twice a year is ideal for most instruments. Regular tuning avoids costly pitch corrections and keeps the sound a lasting pleasure.
Is travel charged extra?
Within my core area in the Allgäu and around Freising, travel is free. For places further out I quote a fair per-kilometre rate transparently in advance.
My piano has not been tuned for years – will it cost more?
Possibly a one-off pitch raise is needed because the instrument has dropped below pitch. I assess the condition and tell you honestly beforehand what makes sense and what it costs.
