You want to part with your piano and wonder what it is worth? Here is what determines the value – and how to sell your instrument fairly and well.
What is my piano worth?
A piano's value depends on several things: make and model, age, the condition of action and soundboard, and current demand. A well-kept instrument from a reputable maker often holds its value remarkably well.
Honestly though: many older pianos are worth less than their owners hope – especially with repairs pending. Then again, there are underrated gems. Only an expert look brings clarity.
Sell as is – or spruce it up first?
Sometimes it pays to have the instrument tuned or minor faults fixed before selling – a playable, well-presented piano sells more easily and at a better price.
This effort does not always pay off: with some instruments the investment is out of proportion to the achievable extra price – then selling as it stands is the wiser path. I look at your piano and tell you honestly which option adds up for you.
A neutral appraisal by a piano maker
Because I do not trade in pianos myself, my appraisal is neutral: I have no interest in talking the value up or down. As a state-certified piano maker I judge condition and market value on solid ground.

Often yes: a tuned, playable piano makes a far better impression on buyers and usually sells more easily and at a better price.
Do you buy pianos or broker them?
